About Coach Erik
My passion for distance running has taken me to some incredible places. Although I no longer coach “full-time”, I continue to serve as an assistant coach for Iona University helping their cross country teams prepare for the season each fall.
From 2018 to 2021, I spent three full seasons with the Iona program. Each year, both our men’s and women’s teams won MAAC cross country championship team titles. The men’s program dominated at the national level and placed as high as 10th at the 2021 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships.
From 2017 to 2018, I was an assistant coach at the University of St. Thomas for the women’s cross country and track programs.
From 2015 to 2017, I served as a volunteer assistant coach with the University of Wisconsin Badgers.
From 2013 to 2015, I was the head cross country and assistant track & field coach at Garner-Hayfield-Ventura High School in Garner, IA.
In the summer of 2014 and 2015, respectively, I served as a volunteer assistant at Harvard and the University of Iowa.
Before starting my coaching journey, I was a four-year cross country and track & field student-athlete at Wartburg College.
In addition to my coaching pedigree, I have a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association certification as a strength and conditioning specialist.

Erik has been incredibly helpful coaching my son. His monthly plans are thorough and well designed with clear progressions. Erik has also been doing weekly 1:1 coaching sessions with my son that have really been the best thing to help a young runner understand the training much more. The education in each session has been invaluable. Sincerely, his training methods are great, and his experience as a coach shines through.
